HISTORY OF
THE H.U.B.B.

Stemming from our Communities That Care (CTC) Coalition research, the H.U.B.B. was started as a partnership with teens in the community to have their voice and actions immersed in the planning and feedback of the opportunities that directly impact them.

PERSONAL GROWTH
Teens participate in challenges by choice while learning how to balance their needs with the collective's. Together, we explore how to stretch and strengthen capacities to cultivate more resiliency, confidence and clarity.

RIPPLE EFFECTS
The HUBB of Ouray County engages the teen community by bringing people together to support mental health.
We do this by planning events
for the teen community to
create connections and have fun!
THE H.U.B.B.'S MISSION
HOW IT STARTED
Cat Geras, our Teen & Community Development Manager, connected with teens who were willing to provide feedback and share ideas. The purpose was to increase the level of teen involvement in the programs, events and components of our community that impact and involve them. They created the name and logo of The H.U.B.B. while identifying the shared values that grounded their mission and priorities.
When asked which aspect of wellness they were seeking the most support with, there was a consensus of wanting more opportunities to connect socially. Therefore, we started planning and hosting various events. After years of navigating the challenges of marketing each different event at different locations with different activities, we shifted to a more streamlined structure. We opted to reclaim Voyager as the Teen Center it used to be through our Final Friday event series that offers variety and consistency.
HOW IT'S GOING
Teen & Community Liaison, Kayla Pratt, has stepped in to support the continuing growth and evolution of the program. Thanks to the hard work and cumulative culture set by our founders, we have a clearer path forward for this dynamic volunteer-based program.
Our current teen leaders volunteer their time to identify trusted adults to enrich their experiences at Final Fridays. They brainstorm the food and activities that tie into their chosen theme of the evening, plus help with set up and clean up. As we approach our yearly trip to Denver to attend the Youth Celebrate Diversity Conference, H.U.B.B. teens will be able to gain experience with fundraising approaches, from event booths to grant writing. Then, we focus on helping plan the trip itself with our budget in mind.
