What is CTC?

Communities That Care is a proven evidence-based system that fosters the reduction of youth violence, delinquency and substance abuse in communities. Communities That Care guides communities through a proven five-phase change process. Using prevention science as its base, CTC promotes healthy youth development, improves youth outcomes, and reduces concerning behaviors.

CTC is an ever-evolving systems change process with a focus on supporting youth by connecting their community.

What do we do?

CTC of Ouray County engages the community to provide tools and opportunities for youth to build positive, healthy futures. Our coalition works to organize, choose tested and effective programs, policies, and practices specific to youth needs. We track progress over time through collaboration and youth engagement. We approach all of this through a Positive Youth Development perspective.

“Problem free is not fully prepared and fully prepared is not fully engaged.”

Our Strategies

Positive Youth Development

Positive Youth Development, “PYD” is an approach that incorporates the development of skills, opportunities and authentic relationships into programs, practices and policies. It teaches a youth's support system how to better understand their needs and the purpose of the phase of life they are in. Youth are then able to reach their full potential when consistently met with curiosity, compassion and provided with appropriate activities, challenges, and experiences. PYD is at the core of everything we do.

Community Collaboration

As the word cloud above highlights, our Coalition seeks to connect community to support youth. We do this through collaborative actions and cohesive efforts. We engage diverse stakeholders in the community from the school, law enforcement, public health, government, business sectors and the youth themselves.   CTC is designed for anyone participating in youth serving organizations or anyone interested in youth well-being.

Youth Engagement

CTC is  a platform for youth voice to see change in their community by providing opportunities toward collaboration. Learn more about the H.U.B.B. an dynamic volunteer-based youth group that is Helping Us Break Boredom! In addition to the H.U.B.B., we collaborate with the schools and other organizations to gain more insight into the Teen perspective. As the saying goes, "nothing about us without us".

Juvenile Services

"CTC is a collective of community members and youth voice that identifies issues our youth face in our community. One way is through the Healthy Kids Colorado Survey. We aim to build connections between the youth and adults in our community to foster relationships while offering opportunities in leadership roles while building lifelong skills."
